Guitar Hero
Guitar Hero is a game based on rhythm. Guitar Hero puts the player in a position as if he or she is a pure guitarist like sting for instance. Guitar Hero is one of the most popular games on many platforms like the pc, Xbox 360, and Nintendo WII.
Guitar Hero's goal is to be able to have the user simulate playing a real guitar and it does a fairly good job. The game is played with a guitar controller which has a whammy bar, and 5 buttons which are coloured coded represent the notes to be played. When playing the game, the user is shown a long guitar neck on the screen and the frets are shown horizontally across the neck (the five coloured buttons). While the song is being played, the notes that need to be used are shown coming towards the fret buttons on the screen and as they reach the fret buttons that particular colour needs to be pressed by the user in order to play the note, if the user fails to do this the note does not get played. There is a meter to the bottom right corner which represents your popularity with the crowd. If you continue to miss notes, the meter will drop and change colour. Green represents your doing well and when means your doing poorly. If you miss enough notes, and the meter goes completely red, the song ends and the fans boo you off the stage with good reason. The sequence of buttons that need to be pressed really does make your hand move as if you are actually playing notes on a guitar.
Guitar Hero has been a huge success in the video game industry. The game also offers online play to allow users to compete against each other in guitar battles to see who is the best of the best. Purists who have played the real thing (a real guitar) may mock the game but remember, its a game and for being a game, it is highly fun and exciting which is exactly what your aiming for when making a game. This game is in no way made to replace the real guitar playing and a game like this may in fact start a trend of having more people interested in playing a real instrument. Guitar Hero's latest version is called Guitar Hero World Tour and is worth every penny, so go to your local game store and check it out.
