To host a cricket world cup just like in soccer's world cup, countries must submits bids to the ICC in which the ICC then votes on the host based upon the bids presented. Most of the tournaments hosted have been shared between nations in the same area. England hosted the first three tournaments mostly due in part that England at that time was willing to put in the funds required to host such an event. In 1987, the event was hosted by both India and Pakistan. In 1992 Australia and New Zealand were the hosts, 1996 was hosted in Pakistan, India and Sri Lanka, 1999 was hosted in England, Holland and Scotland. The next world cup will be held in the year 2011 in the countries of India, Sri Lanka, Pakistan, and Bangladesh.
